'Questa' is a famous Q class racing sloop designed by L. Francis Herreshoff in 1929. Q boats are the first class racers to come under the universal racing rule. J.P. Morgan was instrumental in starting the racing of Q's at Long Island and Marblehead in 1924. There are only 16 Q boats in restored condition remaining. The impressive sailing characteristics and speed of the Q boats are compared much to the 12 meter racers of today. There long sleek hull knifes through the waves like a stiletto, unlike the more modern sailboats that bob up and over every wave. Q boats were built to race and sail upwind. Riding on a Q can be awesome when the breeze goes to the nose - sails sheeted flat she heels-and heels and heels-far past the point where a modern day hull stalls, gaining speed, as she submerges her rail the glass shaped form speeds relentlessly to windward. For the experienced or the not so experienced she's a thrill to sail. You're invited to ride along or help sail the Questa.
