Fischer Outdoor Discoveries (FOD) specializes in small group tours to see wolves, bears and other wildlife. We lead annual trips to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

Authors and conservation leaders Hank and Carol Fischer lead all trips. Hank and Carol are co-authors of The Montana Wildlife Viewing Guide and Paddling Montana. Hank worked for Defenders of Wildlife for 25 years as their Northern Rockies director and was a leader in the effort to restore wolves to Yellowstone Park and central Idaho. He's the author of Wolf Wars, which tells the wolf restoration story.

Join Hank and Carol Fischer as they lead a wildlife search that will take you from the remote northwest corner of Glacier National Park to the eastern plains of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation to the high peaks of Glacier Park. It is the time of year when fall colors are coming on, tourists are retreating and wildlife is very visible. It is a great time to search for grizzlies on open hillsides as they feed voraciously in preparation for winter.

We'll float the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River, the western border of Glacier National Park, looking for bald eagles and listening for wolves. We'll take a level 8-mile hike on a trail that Outside Magazine lists among the top ten scenic hikes in the United States, where mountain goats and bighorn sheep frequently cross the path. Our destination will be the historic Granite Park Chalet, where our group will spend the night. We'll wake up at dawn for a morning of grizzly viewing almost right out our windows.

Then we'll travel to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation where, along with tribal member Darrell Norman, we'll visit important cultural sites and then look for the diminutive swift fox, recently reintroduced on the reservation. After a traditional Blackfeet dinner with storytelling, we'll spend the night in tipis.

We'll hike in the Many Glacier area to look for bighorn sheep and mountain goats, and we'll go to Logan Pass in search of grizzlies, wolverine and ptarmigan. Your lodging will run the gamut from rustic cabins to tipis to historic park lodges.

Why travel with Fischer Outdoor Discoveries'

Our trips are small and personal. You get to know your guides and your traveling companions. You will gain an insight into conservation as well as biology. The trip is all inclusive: food, lodging, transportation, park fees, etc. And finally, you'll meet some of the leading wildlife experts in the region and have the opportunity to talk informally with them in the field.

What our clients say:

'A wonderful Glacier Park experience! The hiking was spectacular, the scenery breathtaking, and the wildlife - grizzly bear, mountain goats, bighorn sheep - so exciting. Thanks for an amazing trip.' Jordy Sitnick, New Jersey

'You got it right when you labeled this the Glacier Wildlife Safari! Instead of a typical tour of a national park you provided us with a unique perspective that very few park visitors ever get to see. From the outpost of Polebridge to the natural, majestic surroundings of Granite Park Chalet, we got the experience first hand what life is like in the true wilderness of Glacier. Thanks Hank for the opportunity. I'll remember it always.' George Tedesco, New Jersey.
