In August of 2002, we --Caroline Peters and Ben Bloch-- built an exhibition space in a 1,000 square foot garage located west of downtown Missoula on Wyoming Street. As two working artists, we felt there needed to be more opportunities for up and coming artists, both local and national, to show their work. We also felt there was more need for art spaces with a pointedly educational mission. Therefore, we established Goatsilk Gallery.
Since opening, we have had a new exhibition each month, including a show of work, purchased for less than $25, from self-representing off e-Bay and a video installation revealing the spiritual, humanistic, and artistic possibilities that can be drawn from an open examination of the act of vomiting. We, as curators, have been thoroughly committed to elucidating the ideas behind the art we show, and functioning as a dynamic resource for education and dialogue in the arts. In addition, Goatsilk has brought a collection of visiting artists, writers, and performers from out of state to stir up and participate in dialogues with local artists. We hope that you will stop by and experience this unique and refreshing facet of the arts in Montana. For further information, please call or email.
Directions: Exit I-90 at Orange Street. Take Orange to Broadway (first stoplight) and make a right. Continue on Broadway until you reach Russell Street (stoplight), and make a left. We are a couple of blocks down on the left in the second of three cinder block buildings, in the garage next to Bitterroot welding. Look for the orange door.
