Barrel Mountaineering is Bozeman's premiere climbing, backpacking, and backcountry skiing store. Barrel is named after one of the owner's father, Barry 'Barrel' Bishop, who was on the first American ascent of Mount Everest in 1963. We offer top quality lines such as Patagonia, Black Diamond, Marmot, MSR, and Mountain Hardwear.
In addition to being a top notch retail store, Barrel offers a full line of rental equipment, including rock and ice climbing gear, telemark skis and boots, snowshoes, backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags.
Barrel also host the Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival the weekend before Thanksgiving each fall. This provides equipment and technique demos with some of the best ice climbers in the world, with the state of the art equipment and instruction.
Directions: Barrel Mountaineering is located off I-90 at the Main Street Exit. Follow Main downtown, on block past Rouse Avenue on the south side of the street.
