Festivities: 'A small town race with a big town attitude - Been There Rode That'

TIME LINE & RACE DESCRIPTIONS:

Cross Country:

Saturday morning at Red Lodge Mountain begins the race weekend with this 8-18 mile Cross Country Race up and down the trails of the ski area. Spectators can watch competitors art finish and midway points of the race and are welcome to hike the course for special views. Competitors must be in top physical condition for this course of heart pumping uphills and hair raising downhills.

Observed Trials:

Saturday afternoon at the festival venue (11th and Broadway) brings this test of balance, skill and bravery. This obstacle course of unbelievable construction, including logs, wooden spools, stumps, ramps and even cars challenge competitors to clear the course without fault or fear. A spectator favorite, this contest is always a crowd pleaser.

Criterium:

Saturday, early evening, in front of the Red Lodge Pizza Company, starts this classic road bike (skinny tires) race which has been set upside down for our Fat Tire enthusiasts. Twelve city blocks of Red Lodge are closed for this unique series of races within a race. Competitors start the course by coasting and lazily pedaling in a group until a prize lap is announced and the sprint is on. Featuring an 'Open' class of choppers, recumbents and just about anything with human powered wheels, this is another crowd pleaser and allows the cyclists to display their personalities as well.

Festival Concert:

Live music at the festival venue starts at 6:00pm and continues until 11:00pm. Food and beverages, including beer, wine and alcohol, will be available for purchase as well as festival memorabilia. The music is free and the atmosphere of our mountain community is lively and friendly.

Downhill:

Sunday is reserved for the premier event of the entire festival, our downhill 'ROCKS'! Considered by area enthusiasts as the best course on the Intermountain West, this trail tests the mettle of the extreme athlete to the fullest. Practice runs and two timed runs ensure the spectator a lot of fun as well.

Directions: The downhill and cross country events for Fat Tire Frenzy will be held at the Silver Run cross country trails. The Observed Trails and the Criterion will be held in downtown Red Lodge-headquarters are located at the corner of 13th Street and Broadway.
