Missoula hosts the 2004 State Summer Games where more than 1,000 Special Olympics athletes gather from across the state. Athletic events include track and field, gymnastics, aquatics, cycling, equestrian, bowling, bocce, powerlifting, golf, and soccer. Most events also feature Unified Sports, which joins Special Olympics athletes and non-disabled Partners as teammates.

The Games officially begin Wednesday, May 18, 2005 with Opening Ceremonies featuring the Parade of Athletes. An exciting evening of family entertainment follows and is open to the public. During the Games, choose your favorite sporting event and be on hand to cheer the athletes on and to witness first-hand the courage and dedication of Montana Special Olympics athletes.

On Thursday the 19th and Friday 20th, the Healthy Athletes venue provides free health screenings for Participating Athletes. Those who visit the venue will receive vision, dental, physical therapy and nutrition advice. The Games conclude with Closing Ceremonies where the Special Olympics torch is extinguished on Friday.

Visitors to State Summer Games are certain to be entertained by the festivities and inspired by the athletes' gold medal performances. Visit the Special Olympics Montana website for additional information: http://www.specialolympicsmt.org
