The State of Montana's Lewis and Clark Memorial resides on Fort Benton's steamboat levee next to the Missouri River. The memorial of Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea with infant son was done by Bob Scriver, a renowned western artist.

At the confluence of the Marias River and Missouri River, the Corps of Discovery waited while a few men scouted ahead to determine which river lead to their destination the Pacific Ocean.
