Alta Campground is located in Bitterroot National Forest of southwest Montana. Near historical town of Alta, the first Ranger Station in the United States. Hughes Creek was the site of early placer gold mining. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, the campground encompasses 6 acres. There are 15 campsites with access to water and restrooms, as well as a garbage removal service. The West Fork of the Bitterroot River runs along this campground providing fishing opportunities. The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 50 feet. Pets are allowed, but dogs must be on leashes. Please limit your stay to 14 days and a small fee is required.

Directions: Travel 4 miles south of Darby, turn left and travel 30 miles southwest on the West Fork Road 473.
