Winter Warm-ups Spring Session
(02/05/05 - 02/26/05)

Saturday February 5: 10:00am - 12:00pm: Calligraphy: Learn the art of handwriting with a quill pen, in the same manner used by the men of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Students will learn basic handwriting techniques with a quill pen and ink. Class size: 15. Minimum age: 6.

Saturday February 19: 10:00am - 12:00pm: Song & Dance: Music played an important role for the Lewis and Clark expedition, both as recreation and as a tool of diplomacy. Students will have a chance to hear the different musical traditions that influenced members of the expedition and to learn some of the dances of the early 19th century. Class size: unlimited. No minimum age.

Saturday February 26: 10:00am - 12:00pm: Flint Knapping: Native Americans and others were able to form very complex tools and weapons from shaped stone. Master flintknapper Ed Wills will give students the opportunity to learn the basic techniques for making projectile points from flakes of stone. Class size: 15. This class is restricted to students 12 and older.

Directions: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center can be reached by following the brown Interpretive Center / State Park signs in Great Falls. 1/4 mile from Giant Springs; 1.5 miles east of Black Eagle Dam.
