This outing will take you to Lewis & Clark Pass, an area that has been described as one of the most significant travel routes in North America. In fact, faint remnants of Native American trails are still evident today. Captain Lewis made note of a beautiful waterfall here, likely along Alice Creek which feeds the famed Blackfoot River. The hike will be led by a Helena National Forest employee. Fay Schaller from the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Great Falls, will be the program interpreter and will talk about what happened as Lewis crossed this historic pass heading east. She will also discuss and point out the native plants he observed in the area. . .This is one in a series of summer and fall outings in the areas explored by Lewis and Clark offered by the Montana Chapter of Sierra Club . Many of these outings follow directly in the explorers' footsteps; others take place in nearby areas that are representative of the wilderness the two worked so hard to map and record.
