The Montana Shakespeare Company: 'We are such stuff as dreams are made on': Founded in 1997 in the classical tradition of Shakespeare's theatre, the Montana Shakespeare Company stages innovative and dynamic full-length productions of the Bard's great works as well as other theatre classics. Under the direction of Kim DeLong, MSC is a blending of seasoned and young professional, talented community artists and student apprentices, dedicated to the production of outstanding quality theatrical classics for audiences of all ages. THE PLOT: The play begins like a fairy-tale. Old and weary, King Lear wants to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, with the largest part going to the one who professes to love him most. His two oldest daughters, Goneril & Regan, make extravagant speeches filled with false flattery of the king, while the youngest, Cordelia, remains silent. When she finally does speak, her language is reasonable and measured, reserving half her love for her future husband. The result is that Lear disowns his favorite daughter, giving her empty-handed to the king of France. Lear's faithful retainer, the earl of Kent warns him of the consequences, but his words fall on deaf ears. Seating is out-of-doors under the starry skies. Patrons are encouraged to dress for their outdoor comfort.
