You won't want to miss the unique hillbilly stringband, The Wilders at this year's Last Chance Bluegrass Festival. This talented group, formed in 1996, is regularly regarded as 'the band to see' wherever they go. Witnessing a performance by the Wilders is an exciting experience not soon forgotten. The members huddle around a single microphone. When the time comes for a solo, each players moves with clockwork precision - they are artists at making each instrument and vocal line mix perfectly through their posture and position in relation to the microphone. Performances at 8pm on Friday and 5 pm on Saturday. Shannon Saunders creates a commanding yet warm stage presence that effortlessly arises from her exceptional fiddling and rich, intriguing voice. While performing her original blend of contemporary bluegrass and roots music, Shannon Saunders is a captivating performer. Performance at 6:00pm on Friday. Al and Emily cantrell cast a magical spell with their airy, joyful acoustic songs. Emily uses her voice as an instrument on soaring vocals like a country Joni Mitchell, while Al plays off her Martin guitar with spirited fiddling and a dazzling mandolin technique--his music weaves through her words as if the two were locked in an intuitive dance. The duo puts a pop spin on acoustic folk and bluegrass music, with occasional detours into Celtic, western swing and traditional American tunes. Performs Saturday at 7:00pm.
