Garnet Family Day is a fun day for all to celebrate Garnet Ghost Town! Visitors can enjoy an afternoon of stories, songs, games, gold-mining, and guided tours when the Garnet Preservation Association and the Bureau of Land Management host Garnet Family Day on Saturday, July 9, 2005. In addition, former residents, caretakers, volunteers, and other 'old timers' are being asked to share their stories of Garnet. In 1898, more than 1,000 people called Garnet their home. The town was a union town, with a strong miner's union, the Garnet Western Labor Union. The union hall, no longer standing, doubled as a town dance hall. The BLM and the Garnet Preservation Association, a nonprofit organization, work as partners to preserve many old buildings, including the stately Wells Hotel. About 15,000 people visit Garnet each year.
