She is a former investment banker with a BA from Harvard and an MBA from UCLA and a founder and executive of Compass Records. Grammy winner, as well as being named 'Banjo Player of the Year' by the International Bluegrass Music Association, Alison Brown and Quartet (John R. Burr piano, Garry West bass and Kendrick Freeman drums) take the banjo quantum leaps beyond traditional bluegrass.
