Montana Summer Music is Northwest Montana's only summer chamber music festival. Festival performers in 2005 will include the Ying Quartet and pianist Elinor Freer. Currently faculty members at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and at the Harvard University, the all-sibling Ying Quartet has been playing together for over ten years. Natives of Winnetka, Illinois, they have appeared at virtually every major venue in the US including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and White House. They have performed many tours abroad including those to Sweden, Germany, Korea, Japan, Australia, and Latvia. Pianist Elinor Freer is also a faculty member at the Eastman School. A native of Missoula, MT, she has performed as soloist and chamber musicians throughout the US, Europe, and China. Montana Summer Music in 2005 will include an evening chamber music concert, a joint concert with Montana's own String Orchestra of the Rockies, a family concert for all ages at the Whitefish Public Library, and an afternoon of workshops for area music students.
