Synopsis: Lucentio, a young man from Pisa, arrives in Padua with his servants Tranio and Biondella. He sees, and at once falls in love with Bianca. She is the daughter of Baptista Minola, who has an elder daughter, Katherina. Baptista refuses to allow Bianca to marry until her older sister has found a husband. Hortensio and Gremio, also Bianca's suitors, agree between themselves to try to find a husband for Katherina, a search which ends with the arrival of Petruchio. The madcap Petruchio woos Katherina, the perfect wife in every respect but one- she is an intolerable shrew. From their first meeting, Petruchio subjects Katherina to a series of verbal and physical indignities 'to hold' as it were, 'a mirror up to nature.' Contrasted to this direct clash is the elaborate wooing of the demure sister Bianca by the disguised Lucentio and Hortensio. At the final banquet, celebrating the three nuptials- those of Kate and Petruchio, Bianca and Lucentio and the widow and Hortensio- the men decide to make a wager. They intend to discover who is the most shrewish of the three women. They ask Biondello to send for each of them. When both Bianca and the widow decline their husband's request, they are amazed when Kate appears before Petruchio. She proclaims her ultimate loyalty to her husband and says she intends to live for him forever. So in the end, 'their jarring notes agree' and the festivities begin Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is the only professional theatre program in the state producing Shakespearean plays and the only company that offers it performances FREE to the public, ensuring that all are able to attend, regardless of income level or community size.
