The Hockaday Museum of Art is housed in a turn of the century Carnegie Library Building that is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. At the Museum, children will enjoy a Discovery Gallery and Gallery Packs with hands-on activities, which change in theme along with the rotating exhibits. Shop for unique gifts created by local artists in the Museum's Off the Wall Gift Gallery. Browse through a great selection of pottery, jewelry, cards, t-shirts, artwork and books on the art, history and culture of Montana, as well as prints by Ace Powell, Bud Helbig, Jeanne Hamilton, Hugh Hockaday and others.

The Hockaday Museum of Art's upcoming exhibitions are not to be missed. They are:

Crown of the Continent: Glacier National Park Gallery (Permanent Exhibition): A permanent exhibit of the painters, photographers, authors and collectibles of Glacier National Park, both past and present. This permanent exhibition will always feature the rich art history of the Park, though the artists change from time to time. The exhibition includes the work of Marshall Noice, T.J. Hileman, John Clarke, John Fery, Ace Powell, Robert M. Stephens, Leonard Lopp and other early and contemporary artists of the Park.

Can You See Me Now' (October 7 though December 18, 2004) In conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, works by Jane Conner.

From A to Z: Africa to Zihuatanejo (October 7 through December 18, 2004) Photographs by Eric Kaplan.

Members Only! (October 21 through December 18, 2004) Works in a variety of media by artist members of the Hockaday Museum of Art.

David Shaner Retrospective (January 20 through April 26, 2005) Ceramic Works by David Shaner.

Susan Arthur: Roots of Rhythm (January 20 through March 4, 2005) Watecolors of the Jazz age by Susan Arthur.

Flathead Celebrates Ceramics (February 3 through March 12) A juried exhibition of ceramics.

Cowpunchers - Photographs of Kurt Markus (March 10 through May 14) Kurt Markus' photographs capture the working life of cowboys and documents the style, and substance, and simplicity of a uniquely American breed.

Children's Art Show (March 17 through April 12, 2005) A juried exhibition of ceramic works.

New Artists ( March 10 through April 12, 2005) An exhibit of work by area high school students.

FVCC Photography Show (April 21 through May 28, 2005) An exhibit of works by photography students at Flathead Valley Community College.

Hockaday Benefit Auction of Miniatures (May 5 though May 20, 2005; Silent Auction May 20, 2005) An invitational fine art exhibit and benefit auction featuring miniature works of art 9 inches by 12 inches smaller by artists from across the west.

KD Swan - Splendid Was the Trail (June 2 through July 28, 2005) In conjunction with the US Forest Service's 100th Anniversary, photographs by Kenneth D. Swan (1889-1970) taken between 1911 and 1947 depicting breathtaking views of wilderness areas and other landscapes.

Winold Reiss: Artist for the Great Northern (June 2 through October 1, 2005) Works by Winold Reiss from collections around the country.

The Horse in Flathead Valley Collections (August 4 through October 21, 2005) Capturing the spirit of the horse as it affects and touches the residents of the Flathead Valley.

Directions: Hockaday Museum of Art is located in Kalispell; two blocks east of Main Street on Third Street and just southeast of the Flathead County Library. Main Street (US Highway 93) runs north/south through Kalispell and intersects US Highway 2 (Idaho Street) at the north end of Kalipell's historic downtown district.
