The West Yellowstone Dog Sled Rendezvous Race features, against a winter wonderland background, 60 racers pacing their 6 and 12-dog teams in the 5th annual running of this event. Starting area is at the old airport along Highway 20 and Iris Street. 12 dog teams will continue out Two Top Trail turning on the Mosquito Gulch Trail and returning along the South Fork of the Madison River. Public can view the race along the starting gate on the old airport. Fur and fun! A cacophony of barking dogs straining to begin their dash highlight these two days of dog sled racing excitement. Past racers have included Doug Swingley, four time winner of the Iditarod, and Janet Whitesell, the Olympic torchbearer. Spectators are welcome! Bring your camera! The vet check for participants begins on Friday, December 3rd at 12:00pm, followed by a racers meeting at 6:30pm. Dogs and teams will begin gathering well ahead of the 9:00am scheduled start for Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday. This event is open to the public and is free to spectators.
