John Colter Run |
The John Colter Run at the Missouri Headwater State Park commemorates John Colter's famous trek across Montana. This is a cross country foot race. So, put on your running shoes and join the group for a unique and fun outdoor activity. Trace the steps of John Colter and his escape from the Blackfeet Tribe. Please call for starting times, distance and other details.
THE COURSE:
Approximately 7 miles on paved and gravel roads and rugged trails, The course is relatively rough but suited for cross country running. the race begins and ends at the Missouri Headwaters State Park with the first mile and a half on a paved county road. the remainder of the course crosses a number of gravel roads, but most of it will be on marked, rugged trails. The course, where not on roads, will be marked with flagged stakes. The last 200 yards crosses the Gallatin River, where it will be waist deep. Bring an extra change of clothes for the awards ceremony and refreshments.
IMPORTANT: Due to time constraints and the nature of the race, WALKERS ARE NOT PERMITTED! Also, no dogs will be allowed on the race course.
Directions: John Colter Run will start 3 miles east of Three Forks on I-90 at Three Forks exit, then east on Secondary 205, then 3 miles north on Secondary 286, at Missouri Headwaters State Park.
