Original art and lively jazz come to the historic downtown Philipsburg on Sunday August 21st. The annual event showcases the work of painters, potters, weavers, glass blowers, woodworkers and sculptors. In addition, the crowds will be entertained with live jazz, wine and cheese tasting, free face painting and a sidewalk chalk contest. While the festival is going on, all local businesses will be catering to the visitors. Charming Victorian buildings host many unique shops including an old fashioned ice cream parlor, a one-of-a-kind candy store, a historic museum, a huge sapphire jewelry gallery and numerous antique and gift shops. Philipsburg's historic opera house will be presenting live theatre with two performances on this day. Philipsburg is emerging as a diverse artists colony. This 'prettiest painted place' in America is featured in the July 2003 issue of Sunset Magazine as a most desired tourist spot. Philipsburg is nestled in sage-colored hills against the spectacular backdrop of snow-covered mountains. Surrounded by picturesque lakes and rivers, this nineteenth century community is home to an entire array of outdoor activities. It is located 78 miles from Missoula, 52 miles from Butte and it is a one and a half hour drive from Helena. Philipsburg is located along the Pintlar Scenic Drive on Montana's Highway 1.
