Three Forks Area Festival of Discovery is an annual event held the 4th weekend of July. This year will commemorate the Corps of Discovery of 1803-1806. Three Forks area communities and businesses are hosting a number of programs and events. On Friday, local businesses feature their finest merchandise along Main Street of Three Forks. In the afternoon, a complimentary shuttle bus will be available to willow Creek, Montana, just south of Three Forks, for the Willow Creek Art Walk, held from 5pm - 9pm traditionally featuring arts, crafts, food, dramatic and literary presentations, music and more. Summer Campfire Program begins at 7pm at the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. The shuttle bus will also be available to the Caverns with a tour of the Parker Homestead State Park in route. Saturday's festivities begin early with a Lions Club breakfast followed by the Area Communities Band, VFW presentation and an official proclamation from Three Forks City Mayor, Gene Townsend. Day long presentations of the Lewis & Clark reenactment unit and the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation begin at 8am and continue until 6pm. Scheduled speakers present a range of topics including Native Americans, Montana History and Nature. The Headwaters Heritage Museum hosts the annual Journey of Discovery Treasure Hunt. The Library Green is the site for Children's Activities and presentations. Refreshments are available from vendors and local eating establishments. The Arts and Crafts Fair presents a wide variety of creations by artisans and craftsmen from near and far. Experience horse drawn wagon rides along Main Street and whole pig BBQ with trimmings. Area Businesses offer a variety of merchandise and services that include canoe trips on the Jefferson River, visiting authors and book signings taste treats and featured menus, comfortable rooms and convenient camping. A shuttle bus will be available all day to transport throughout the City of Three Forks and to Missouri Headwaters State Park. There will be tours and presentations all day at the State Park culminating with the Summer Speaker Series at 7pm. Also available is a set of 4 Commemorative Medals (limited edition of 500 sets), representative of the peace medals carried by Lewis & Clark. Each set sells for $50.
