Medicine Rocks Black Powder Shoot is an annual rifle and old west revolver contest consisting of muzzle loading rifle and cartridge rifles of the period 1840 through 1900 using either smokeless or black powder loads. The contest consists of steel silhouettes targets from 100 to 800 yards. Period clothing is encouraged but not mandatory. The shoot is to encourage shooting sports in general and period black powder shooting specifically, while displaying weapons, clothing and lifestyles on the high plains of the time period 1840s through 1900s. Camping is available at Medicine Rocks State Park, adjacent to the shooting range. Short order meals will be available during the shoot. The event is held annually the weekend following Labor Day Weekend.For further information concerning entry fee, registration, etc. contact; W.O. Directions: Medicine Rocks Black Powder Shoot is located 1 mile west of Route 7, 12 miles north of Ekalaka. Turn west at Medicine Rocks Church. Signs will be posted.
