Parmly Billings City Library collections contain nearly 300,000 items. Of these, approximately 250,000 are books, of which approximately one-third are the children's fiction and non-fiction, one third is adult non-fiction arranged using the Dewey Decimal System for organization by subject, and one-third are adult fiction (novels) arranged alphabetically by author's last name. Of the adult collections, 9,000 are Large Type books both fiction and non-fiction and about 5,700 are biographies arranged in alphabetical order by the name of the subject person

.Other items that can be checked out by patrons include 190 current magazines, 7,000 music CDs, an increasing number of books on CD, over 5,900 audio cassette/books on tape, over 10,900 videos, over 1,400 interactive media CD-ROMs (computer games and programs), and a pamphlet file arranged alphabetically by subject.

The library's adult computer resources consist of 5 word-processing computers, 18 Internet stations, and several Local Area Network stations with access to the library catalog and online databases, including the statewide magazine index databases and the Novelist Reader's Advisory database. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation granted the library 4 computers with multiple capabilities, including children's games, word processing, and Internet. The word processors have both word-processing and spreadsheet programs. The library also provides access to one LaserCat station for finding locations of books at other libraries

.The Montana Room contains a special collection of about 8,800 volumes plus assorted microfilms, magazines, and newspaper article files, including references pertaining to Montana as both state and territory, works by Montana authors, and works about events of interest to or occurring in Montana, such as the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The Montana Room files contain pictures of early pioneers, settlements, newspaper stories, biographical clips, information about the city of Billings, and many other items of local interest.

The Teen Pit on the second floor, which opened in May 2001, contains about 5,000 items divided into fiction, non-fiction, magazines, and music geared to the 14 to 18 age group, in a relaxed atmosphere somewhat separated from the surrounding area by a glass wall. There are 2 of the Gates Foundation computers, 2 computers with Internet and library catalog and database access. CD players are available for check-out from the nearby reference desk, so teens may listen to their favorite tunes while browsing books or doing homework. The Youth Services collections consist of nearly 81,000 items in non-fiction, fiction, videos, and magazines geared to readers from kindergarten to 14 years, for the benefit of younger readers. There are also materials for parents and home-schoolers. .Today, the Parmly Billings Memorial City-County Library serves the population of Yellowstone County and Golden Valley County, Montana, a total of approximately 131,000 people

Children's storytelling program is Tuesday through Friday at 10:30am to 11:00am. We also have Billings and Montana Highway maps to give away.
