Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Pioneer Lodge is the remodeled Mercantile Store, built in 1916. Historically the site has been a mercantile store started by T. C. Power in 1867 with tents and then building his first store in 1882. Since the first two Power stores burned, this one built in 1916, will probably outlast the town, as the walls are about 18-inch thick and the floors/ceilings between the floors are about 9-inch thick of cement, being almost indestructible. Because the building has always been a store, the appearance from the outside is still a store, but the inside is wonderfully comfortable with a spacious lobby that enjoys the panoramic view of the Missouri River, the walking levee and the trees and hills across the way.

We have 8 spacious rooms, each decorated with a historical theme of the area. Each are different and some even have loft bedrooms. All rooms have private bathrooms, remote controlled cable television, individually controlled heat and a/c and have phone, fax, and internet available. A complimentary beverage is offered on arrival and a continental breakfast is available each morning.

Because our town is relatively small, very safe and everything is within walking distance, please contact us for your family reunions, the famous Summer Celebration at the end of June, our great Chouteau County Fair at the end of August, for your stay before and after your Missouri River Trip with one of our outfitters, or just for that relaxing couple of days in our Historic Town.

Directions: The Pioneer Lodge is located on 1700 Front Street in downtown Fort Benton, across from the Missouri River on Highway 87, between Great Falls and Havre. Fort Benton is also quite centrally located between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks and 40 miles from commercial airlines in Great Falls and the Amtrak train service into Havre, 73 miles to the North. Small private planes are also able to land at our City Airport.
